She is a student in the agriculture field at Mansfield University. A Ephrata Cloister Tours To Recall 1740 s EPHRATA (Lancaster Co.) In the mid-1700s, when residents of the Ephrata Cloister were busy producing music, printing books, and building impressive homes, most community mem bers practiced a lifestyle ef self discipline and celibacy. But this holiday season wedding bells will be ringing for one of the Cloister Sisters as the Ephrata Cloister presents the Christmas Candle former 4-H and FFA member, Dixie was a volunteer for several years in the therapeutic riding program, teaching horseback rid ing to handicapped participants, and is a member of the geogra phy and saddle clubs at Mans field. Her future plans include a career working in the agriculture/environmental field. Dixie’s grandmother is a mem ber of Lebanon County, Group #3. Melinda Martin, 18, is the daughter of Marcus and Loretta Martin, Mercersburg, Franklin County. She is a student at Penn State. In addition to working at Whitetail Ski Resort and Old Navy stores, she helps on the family’s dairy farm and was the Franklin County dairy princess. Melinda was an honor society member, Conococheaguge FFA officer, active in 4-H and church youth groups. Her mother and her grandmother, Loretta Mar tin, are members of Franklin County Group #l5. Cory J. Mellott, 22, is the son of James and Sherrie Mellott, Mercersburg, Franklin County. He is a freshman at SUNY Cob leskill, majoring in recreation and sports management. Emme was very active in both FFA, 4-H, and junior Holstein Associ ation programs, with a focus on dairy showing and dairy judging teams, including All-American judging participation. Her moth er and her grandmother, Doris Mellott, are members of Franklin County Group #6. Ryan L. Miller, 20, is the son of Calvin and Susan Miller, Fredericksburg, Lebanon Coun ty. He is a freshman student at SUNY Cobleskill, majoring in agriculture engineering. He has been employed on both his fami ly’s dairy operation as well as his uncle’s turkey and crops farm. Ryan was very active in high school sports, serving as captain of the football team, as well as participation in varsity and ski clubs, baseball and basketball. A “Everyone loves a wedding, and this should be a great one,” says Michael Showalter, museum educator. The story, based on real events which occurred at the Ephrata Cloister, will be reen acted by the student historians of the Ephrata Cloister. The stu dents, in grades 7 through 12 from local schools, will portray Sister Tabea, Daniel Shibley, the community’s founder Conrad Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 16. 2000-815 4-H’er, he raised and showed dairy cattle, and was a member of the Lebanon County’s junior Holstein dairy bowl team. Ryan’s mother and grandmother are members of Lebanon County Group #2O. Lisa Nissley, 20, is the daugh ter of Thomas and Kathryn Nis sley, Manheim. She is a student at Indiana University of Penn sylvania, majoring in family and consumer sciences and plans a career in teaching. Lisa has worked on the staff of the Appa lachia Service Project, helping to instruct volunteer groups doing home repairs for low-income families. She also works with the state association of Family and Consumer Sciences, a profession al development organization and teaches aerobics part-time. Lisa’s grandmother is a member of Cumberland County Group #l7. Barbara L. Reichard, 18, is the daughter of Jesse and Tonya Reichard, Waynesboro. She is a freshman at Penn State Mont Alto campus, majoring in agri cultural sciences. Barbara held several leadership offices in FFA, played varsity volleyball and was a wrestling team manager. As a 4-H member, she was club and county council president, helped to organize various community service projects, and exhibited dairy cattle. Her mother is a Beissel, and other leading mem bers of the 18th century set tlement including Peter Miller and Maria Eicher. The guide for the evening, talkative neighbor, will help to bring the story to life. “These tours are designed to focus on a specific story in Eph rata’s history, and they are one of our most popular programs,” says Showalter. He has been employed part-time by Hilltop Farms for three years, and plans to take a full-time po sition there following completion of his degree. Ryan was presi dent of his junior and senior classes at Solanco High School, member of the student senate, National Honor Society and principal’s advisory council. He was active in FFA, band, track and was a peer tutor, and media tor. Ryan’s mother is a member of Lancaster County Group #2O. Tara Zimmerman, 18, is the daughter of Warren and Sharon Zimmerman, Lebanon. She is a freshman at Susquehanna Uni versity, with plans for a career as a veterinarian. A flutist and pia nist, Tara was a member of the band, as well as accompanist for various church musical groups. She was involved in numerous Lebanon County’s 4-H pro grams, including dairy exhibiting with Cedar Crest dairy club.
