Apple Association Announce Agreement
GLENMONT, N.Y. There
is no other agricultural industry
in New York facing the multi
tude of challenges that the apple
industry is currently facing.
After several years of low
apple prices, the recent hail
storms and other unusual
weather conditions have se
verely impacted grower fi
nances.
The Environmental Protec
tion Agency has targeted this in
dustry and has already
restricted key crop protectants
under its interpretation of the
Food Quality Protection Act
(FQPA). The Immigration and
Naturalization Service has tar
geted growers in various raids.
And finally, they will be the first
and most impacted if the state
enacts stricter regulatory man
dates in addition to the already
burdensome federal require-

sons that the New York Apple
Association and the New York
Farm Bureau have initiated a
more direct working relation
ship.
In order to provide a clear
message to our lawmakers and
the governor, the New York
Farm Bureau will advance legis
lative, regulatory, and budget
ary initiatives that the New
York Apple Association and
New York Farm Bureau mem
bers hold as joint interests.
It is anticipated that this will
strengthen the communication
within the apple industry and
