The 50th Annual Meeting Of the
Pennsylvania Farm Bureau
(PFB) will take place Nov. 13-15
here at the Hershey Lodge and
Convention Center.
Several hundred farmers, in
cluding 172 voting delegates,
will gather for the three-day
event which will culminate in
the election of leaders and the
setting of policy positions for the
coming year on agricultural
issues. This year’s annual meet
ing will feature special programs
and activities on Tuesday, Nov.
14 in celebration of the farm or
ganization’s 50th anniversary.
PFB was organized as the
Pennsylvania Farmers’ Associa
tion by a group of about 40

now represents more than
28,000 farm and rural families
in 54 county farm bureaus. It is
part of the nation’s largest gen
eral farm organization, the 4.9-
million member American Farm
Bureau Federation.
Voting delegate sessions will
be held each day of the annual
meeting to deliberate on policy
proposals developed from the
organization’s grass-roots level.
Delegates will also be electing
the organization’s president and
eight board members for two
year terms. PFB’s Nominating
Committee has nominated Guy
Donaldson of Adams County for
re-election to the organization’s
top post.

Conduct 50th Annual Meeting
Information conferences are
also scheduled each day. Mon
day’s agenda will feature ses
sions on biotechnology and long
term health care. Tuesday’s
conferences will cover farm
safety for children and a special
anniversary session on
“PFA/PFB: Five Decades of
Progress” featuring past and
present leaders of the organiza
tion. A motivational conference
entitled “Celebrating the Dash”
will take place Wednesday, Nov.
15.
PFB’s Young Farmer and
Rancher Discussion Meet com
petition will be Tuesday of the
annual meeting. Judges will
select a winner based on his or
her ability to express ideas and

opinions on pre-selected topics.
, PFB President Donaldson will
review the organization’s ac
complishments 4ptr the past
year during the Pnfeddent’s Ad
dress to the Annfial Meeting on
Monday. Richard D. Harris,
American Farm Bureau’s chief
administration officer and secre
tary-treasurer, will speak at a
special 50th anniversary lunch
eon Tuesday. State House Dem
ocratic Whip Michael Veon (D
-14th Dist.) will address a
breakfast meeting of FARMER,
PFB’s political action commit
tee, Wednesday.
PFB will present several
awards during the annual meet
ing. The winner of the young
farmer and rancher achieve
mcnt awards will bp announced
at Tuesday’s luncheon. The Dis
tinguished Service to Agricul
ture Award and All-Star County
award for the top county farm
bureau will be presented during
Tuesday evening’s banquet. The
winner of PFB’s young farmer
and rancher discussion meet will
also be announced Tuesday eve
ning.
