Trucklot buying activity was mostly
fair to moderate at best as dealers cau
tiously assessed needs approaching the
weekend. Supplies of boneless skinless
breasts were fully adequate, and bone-in
breasts were available.
Dark meat items were at least ade
quate, although drumsticks were clear
ing well due to export activity. Wings
remained the best item as demand re
mained fairly good at all locations.
Movement into retail and distributive
channels was fair to moderate. The
market tone was about steady on bone
less skinless breasts, cautiously steady to
weak on bone-in breasts, and at least
steady on the balance.

Mostly prices were unchanged on
whole and whites, but higher on yolks
when compared to a week earlier. The
market tone was fully steady on yolks,
steady to full steady on whole, and un
settled to about steady on whites.
Demand was light to moderate with best
interest centered on irregular offerings
of yolks. Other supplies were adequate
for current needs. Liquid and frozen eggs
(ingredients included) processed under
federal inspection in the Eastern region
for the week ending October 14, 2000
were 3 % more than last week, but 9 %
percent less than a year ago.

In Philadelphia, prices were un
changed to 3 cents higher on the larger
sizes and unchanged to 2 cents higher for
mediums. Prices paid to producers in
New England were 3 cents higher for
extra large and large, 2 cents higher for
the smaller sizes, and unchanged for
jumbos. In Boston, prices were un
changed. The market tone was fully
steady to firm. Demand improved in
some areas and was mostly moderate.
Supplies of the larger sizes were ade
quate and the lighter weight eggs were
barely adequate. Breaking stock supplies
were usually sufficient for the moderate
demand. Light type hens were adequate
for slaughter requirements.
Philadelphia: prices to retailers, sales
to volume buyers, USDA Grade A and
Grade A white eggs in carton, delivered
to store door, cents per dozen: extra large
