Penn State Sets Dairy Management Series
EBENSBURG (Cambria Co.)
Penn State Cooperative Ex
tension is offering a three-day
educational series for dairy pro
ducers to learn more about man
aging their dairy into the future.
This program was developed
with profit-minded dairy pro
ducers who want to improve
their dairy operation.
The goal of this program is to
educate producers of what is re
quired to successfully grow a
dairy business. The program is
being presented at two locations
in the area, McAlisterville and
Bedford. Both locations will pro
vide the same information in the
same format.

Wool and Mohair Market Loss
Assistance Program (WAM
LAP) is available to wool or
mohair producers who produced
and sheared wool or mohair
during the period of Jan. 1,1999
through Dec. 31,1999.
This is a one time payment
program that will reimburse
producers at a rate of 20 cents
per pound for wool and 40 cents
per pound for mohair. The sign
up period began Oct. 10 and will
run until Dec. 29,2000.
To be eligible for this pro
gram, a producer must have
produced domestic wool or
mohair during the 1999 market
ing year and still be in the busi
ness of producing and
marketing agricultural products

The program will be con
ducted in McAlisterville at the
Old Filling Station Nov. 7, 21,
and Dec. S, and in Bedford at
the Arena Nov. 8,22, and Dec. 6
from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. A pro
ducer can choose to attend any
number of days desired and at
either location.
Each day is designed to take a
focused, in depth look at one
aspect of dairy farm manage
ment. Day one is designed to
show what is necessary to
remain competitive and increase
profitability in today’s dairy in
dustry
Day two will focus on facility

Eligible wool and mohair must
have been shorn in the U.S. and
the livestock must have been
owned for 30 calendar days or
more by the producer at the time
of shearing.
Application will be made on a
self certification basis and can
be made in person, by mail, tele
phone, or fax. All payments
must be made by direct deposit.
A percentage of applications
will be subject to spot check, at
which time the producer will be
required to provide copies of
sales documents to substantiate
the certified amount of pounds
applied for.
