Recently the Eastern Pennsylvania Livestock Show and Sale was conducted at the Christina Graver was awarded grand champion market hog and market hog pair. The champion sold for $2.13 per pound to Hatfield Quality Meats and the second hog sold for $1 per pound to Mid Atlantic Farm Credit. Christi na is a 10-year-old, second-year 4-H member from Car bon County. Sarah Blackadar of Northampton County received the grand champion bred/owned market lamb award. Her lamb sold for $2.06 per pound to Qermansville Farm and Feed ' ' a mem ber of Be KUTZTOWN (Berks Co.) The 2000 Sale of Champions at the Berks County 4-H Roundup was conducted here the end of September at the Kutztown Fair grounds. About 70 buyers bid $47,545. Auctioneers were John Fry and Harry Bachman. The project animals included a skillathon, showmanship, fitting, and evaluation. The county 4-H club has scheduled its annual banquet Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Kutztown Grange. Blue Valley Farm Show Com plex in Bangor. Following are the photo re sults. Champion market lamb project, raised by Amanda Miller, Womelsdorf, was bid for $3OO to Lebanon Val ley Farmers Bank. Champion meat goat project, raised by Jill Neiman, Fleetwood, was sold for $3OO to Willow James Ford of Northampton County received the grand champion market lamb and pair of lambs award during the lamb show. His champion lambs sold for $2.61 per pound to Main Street Market. James is a 15-year-old, seven-year 4-H member. Jennifer Hower was awarded the grand champion mar ket steer honor. Hower’s crossbred steer sold for $1.14 per pound to Main Street Market, Bangor. Jennifer is 15 years old and a member of Northampton County 4-H. Jamie Hower of Northampton County received the grand champion bred/owned market steer award. Her purebred Angus steer sold for 76 cents per pound to Suburban Carwash, Allentown. In the second year of an evaluation project called the Gardener Selects program, ex perts in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences will plant the seeds for thousands of flower and vegetable varieties in gar dens at 38 sites across Pennsylva nia, including 10 new sites. “We’re planting 20 to 30 of the best new cultivars from our Hor ticulture Trial Gardens in gar dens at public parks or Penn State Cooperative Extension of fices throughout Pennsylvania,” said Robert Berghage, associate professor of horticulture.
