Weekly Cattle Summary Compared to
two weeks ago; Feeder cattle and calves
steady to 2.00 lower. Demand moderate.
Quality plain to average with large per
centage Brahma-cross yearlings and
calves in supply. Weigh-ups average to
full. Feeder cattle in slightly thin to mod
erate flesh, few fleshy. Calves in medium
to fleshy condition. Weather continues
hot and dry with 46 plus days of no rain.
Some buyers and producers alike are
concerned they will have to market
cattle early which could possibly pro
duce another month of relatively large
placements.
Compared to last week: Slaughter
cows and bulls 1.00 lower. Bulk supply
of packer cows in thin to very thin condi
tion. This seasons hot and dry weather
has dropped cow condition earlier than
normal. Demand moderate for all
classes. Half the supply bred cows of
mostly low quality. Total of 895 cows
and bulls sold with 48 percent to pack
ers.
Receipts this week 10,625; last week
1276; last year 9398.
Supply consisted of 67% yearlings
over 600 lbs; 25% calves under 600 lbs;
8% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised
38% of feeder and calf supply.
Prices follow with weighted average
