Prices were irregular, with mostly
values slightly lower on whole but gener
ally unchanged on balance of items
when compared to last week. Demand
was only fair with movement in a full
range of light to good due in part to prior
commitments. Interest on yolks was im
proving. Supplies were mostly adequate.
Trade sentiment was fully steady on
yolks, steady on whites and about steady
on whole. Liquid and frozen eggs
(ingredients included) processed under
federal inspection in the Eastern region
for the week ending August 26, 2000
were 8 % more than a week ago but 2 %
less than the same week last year.

breasts were about adequate and clear
ing satisfactorily. Boneless skinless
breast were at least adequate. Other
items were sufficient for trade needs.
Movement into retail and distributive
channels was fair to moderate. The
market tone was at least steady to fully
steady on bone-in breast and leg items,
about steady on boneless skinless breast.
Other items were mostly steady.

In Philadelphia and Boston, prices
were unchanged to 2 cents lower on the
larger sizes and unchanged for mediums.
Prices paid to producers in New Eng
land were 1 cent lower for extra large
and large, unchanged on the balance of
sizes. The market tone was barely steady
to weak on the larger sizes and mostly
steady for the lighter weight eggs.
Demand into all outlets was light to fair,
soemwhat better where scattered fea
tures were in progress. In the Philadel
phia area, one dozen large eggs were free
with an additional purchase. Supplies
were adequate to available for current
needs. Breaking stock offerings from
regular sources were at least adequate
and demand for additional product was
light. Light type hens were generally ad
equate for slaughter needs.
Philadelphia prices to retailers, sales
to volume buyers, USDA Grade A and
Grade a, white eggs in cartons, delivered
store door, cents per dozen. Extra large
