A2B-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 2, 2000 Abundant MICHELLE RANCK Farming Staff ELIZABETHTOWN (Lancas ter Co.) Approximately 180 animals competed in Eliza bethtown’s breeding sheep show at the recent fair, with approxi mately 12 different breeds repre sented in the shows. Eighty-five lambs competed in the market lamb competition. Stephanie Kauffman, 11, from Landisville won supreme cham pion breeding sheep honors with her Southdown aged ewe. Kauff man, who will be in the sixth grade, travels to her grandpar ents’ Mount Joy farm. Her grandparents. George and Lor raine Lewis, see Stephanie al most every day as she helps to tend the almost thirty South downs housed there. Her duties there depend on the time of year. “During show sea son I walk the sheep,” said Kauffman, “but the rest of the time 1 help with feeding.” Kauffman recovered from a bike accident and a broken arm this summer to return to the show ring, where she has been competing in open shows since she was five years old. She is now in her fourth year of 4-H. The Southdown’s depth of rib, clean front end. good wheel base (elbow joint to flank area), and bone structure placed the ewe at the top of the class, according to judge Lee Wagner. “Jalen," a lamb from B & B Livestock in Ohio, turned out to be a winner for Sarah Boyd. The lamb topped the classes to move onto overall grand champion market lamb. A sophomore elementary edu cation major at Millersville Uni versity, Boyd bought Jalen on a trip with friend and fellow sheep ring contender Jen Zimmerman. During Boyd’s first trip to Ohio for a sale, she bought Jalen on the way home, a decision which proved to be a wise one, as the lamb caught the eye of Wagner. Judge Wagner, of Easton, judged the sheep showmanship, breeding, and market shows dur ing the afternoon. Wagner is the flock manager for Sunrise Farms in Harrisburg. According to Wagner in the sheep show, “the quality has taken a rise,” said Wagner. “A lot of lamb classes today ran six or seven deep with really good lambs.” ELIZABETHTOWN FAIR RESULTS MARKET LAMB RESULTS PAIR OF MARKET LAMBS OPEN CLASS Class 1 1 Gerald Tracy 2 Sarah Dan iels 3 Jennifer Zimmerman Class 2 1 Corby Ziegler 2 Adam Zunn 3 Heather Ziegler Class 3 1 Ed Donough 2 Travis Do nough 3 Ryan Donough Class 4 1 John Tracy 2 Sarah Boyd 3 Joelynn Donough Grand champion pair John Tracy Reserve champion Ed Donough YOUTH CLASS Class 1 1 Sarah Daniels 2 Jennifer Zimmerman 3 Samantha Dissmger Class 2 1 Corby Ziegler 2 Adam Zunn 3 Heather Ziegler Class 3 1 Ryan Donough 2 Chad New comer 3 Lance Nissley Class 4 1 John Tracy 2 Sarah Boyd 3 Joelynn Donough SELLING MARKET LAMBS LIGHTWEIGHT YOUTH CLASS Class 1 1 Richard Musser 2 Sarah Daniels 3 Bobbi Nicole Bentzel Class 2 1 Lynn Brandt 2 Christine Musser 3 Radell Peters Selling market lamb lightweight champi on Lynn Brandt Selling market lamb lightweight reserve Competition At Elizabethtown Sheep Show champion Richard Musser MEDIUMWEIGHT Class 1 1 Corby Ziegler 2 Michael Musser 3 Roanna Martin Class 2 1 John Tracy 2 Amy Brandt 3 Ryan Donough Champion middleweight market John Tracy Reserve champion middleweight mar ket Corby Ziegler HEAVYWEIGHT Class 1 1 Joelynn Donough 2 Heather Ziegler 3 Angela Bentzel Class 2 1 Amy Long 2 Chad Newcom er 3 Lance Nissley Heavyweight champion Joelynn Do nough Heavyweight reserve champion Amy Long Overall champion market lamb Sarah Boyd Overall grand champion selling lambs Joelynn Donough Overall reserve champion selling lambs John Tracy NON-SELLING MARKET LAMBS INDIVIDUAL MARKET LAMB (LIGHTWEIGHT) OPEN CLASS Class 1 1 Roanna Martin 2 Samantha Dissmger 3 Jimmy Zimmerman Class 2 1 Gerald Tracy 2 Ed Donough 3 Gerald Tracy Class 3 1 Travis Donough 2 Adam Zunn 3 John Tracy Lightweight champion market lamb Ed Donough Lightweight reserve champion Gerald Tracy YOUTH CLASS Class 1 1 Roanna Martin 2 Samantha Dissmgei 3 Jimmy Zimmerman Class 2 1 Adam Zunn 2 Jennifer Zim merman 3 Sarah Daniels Class 3 1 Adam Zunn 2 John Tracy 3 Adam Zunn Lightweight champion market lamb Adam Zunn Reserve champion market lamb John Tracy INDIVIDUAL MARKET LAMB (MEDIUMWEIGHT) OPEN CLASS Class 1 1 John Tracy 2 Laura New comer 3 Corby Ziegler Class 2 1 Ryan Donough 2 Ed Do nough 3 Eugene Bollinger Class 3 1 Joelynn Donough 2 Ed Do nough 3 Travis Donough Middleweight champion market lamb Joelynn Donough Reserve champion market lamb Ed Do nough YOUTH CLASS Class 1 1 John Tracy 2 Laura New comer 3 Corby Ziegler Class 2 1 Ryan Donough 2 Corby Ziegler Class 3 1 Joelynn Donough 2 Ryan Donough 3 Ryan Donough Middleweight champion market lamb Joelynn Donough Reserve champion market lamb Ryan Donough INDIVIDUAL MARKET LAMB (HEAVYWEIGHT) OPEN CLASS Class 1 John Tracy 3 Gerald Boyd Class 2 1 Sarah Boyd 2 Travis Do nough 3 Joelynn Donough Class 3 1 Gerald Boyd 2 Carol Boll inger 3 Corby Ziegler Heavyweight champion market lamb Sarah Boyd Reserve champion market lamb Travis Donough YOUTH CLASS Class 1 John Tracy 3 Andrew Gerhart Class 2 1 Sarah Boyd 2 Joelynn Do nough Class 3 1 Corby Ziegler Heavyweight champion market lamb Sarah Boyd Reserve champion market lamb John Tracy Overall champion market lamb (youth and open) Sarah Boyd Overall reserve champion market lamb (youth and open) Joelynn Donough BREEDING SHEEP SHOW RESULTS CHEVIOT Yearling ram 1 Jimmy Zimmerman 2 Travis Donough Champion cheviot ram Jimmy Zimmer man Reserve champion cheviot ram Travis Donough Aged ewe 1 Travis Donough Yearling ewe 1 Jimmy Zimmerman Spring ewe lamb 1 Travis Donough Champion cheviot ewe Travis Donough Reserve champion cheviot ewe Jimmy Zimmerman DORSET Fall ram lamb 1 Radell Peters Champion dorset ram Radell Peters Aged ewe 1 Radell Peters 2 Radell Peters Yearling ewe 1 Radell Peters 2 Amy Haines Fall ewe lamb 1 John Tracy 2 Radell Peters Breeder flock 1 Radell Peters Champion dorset ewe Radell Peters Reserve champion dorset ewe John Tracy MILK, rr DOES A BODY GOOD.
