The 15-year-old Red Lion hog exhibitor snagged champion market swine honors with a lean, stretchy 261-pound cross bred gilt boasting hams sugges tive of a bodybuilder’s biceps. Innerst’s homebred winner was a triple-breed cross, incorporat ing bloodlines of a Hampshire boar and a Yorkshire Inland China Crossbred sow. Buyer of the young hog breed er’s first roundup champion was Joe Semeister, Windsong Farm Kennels, Red Lion, with an ante of $2.87 per pound for the sale opener. Second through the sale arena was Heather Miller of Glen Rock, nudging reserve cham pion “Clancy” to show off her winning qualities to the bleach ers packed with buyers and guests on hand to bid and cheer. Longtime youth project sup porter Hatfield Quality Meats, represented by buyer Kurt Good, held out for the winning bid of $1.85 per pound for the 241-pou.id crossbred gilt. Champion lightweight hog, weighing in at 226 pounds, was exhibited by Jared Miller and sold for $1 per pound to Lee Godfrey for Godfrey Brothers Meats, York. Randy Wilson took heavy weight class division reserve honors, with his 270-entry bring ing a 95-cent bid from Daniel Laughman, York. Blaine Rentzel, in the first of numerous additions to bids, added a nickel to the price of Wilson’s reserve weight class titlist. Rentzel, on behalf of his Rentzel’s Auctioneering Service, then boosted every bid to a mini mum $1 per pound for all market swine exhibitor/sellers. Jessica Innerst claimed the re serve mediumweight champion spot with her 246-pound hog, which sold for $1.95 per pound Windsong Farm Kennels. Strine Heating and Cooling, York, was the successful bidder for the 228-pound reserve cham pion lightweight, exhibited by Jason Seitz. Boops Exhibit Grand Champion At Northern Tier Holstein Show CAROLYN N. MOYER Bradford Co. Correspondent MESHOPPEN (Wyoming Co.) Five-year-old New- Direction Budgee, owned by Douglas and Jennifer Boop, was crowned the grand champion at the sixth annual Northern Tier Championship Show. “We have quite an impressive group of senior aged females,” said show judge Curtis Day as he pulled the first and second place 5-year-old cows out of the lineup. He made New Direction Budgee the champion and Cykil Special Babe-ET, owned by Wayne and Roger Sherwood, re serve grand champion. Conducted at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds Aug. 3 and judged by Curtis Day, show en tries topped 130 head. Snowcrest Farm captured both the premier breeder and premier exhibitor banners of the show. Named the junior champion of the open division was Norkval Storm Linnel, owned by Gerald and Linda Kisner. Heather Pease crossed divi sion lines as her fall calf, Sweet Lane Innerst earned grand champion honors of the York 4-H market swine roundup with her homebred crossbred.
