    First-Year Showman Takes Championship

MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) -
The youngest showman won the
top prize at the Lancaster 4-H
steer show last Saturday at the
Manheim Fair grounds. Ryan
Nolt, 8-year-old, son of Gene and
Charlene Nolt, New Holland,
walked away with the grand
championship on his first-place
1176-pound mediumweight. This
was Ryan’s first year of showing
and kept a family tradition alive.
His sisters also have had grand
champions. Sarah showed her
first heifer to grand champion in
1996 and her first steer was
champion in 1997. Katie had the

Quarryville, with her champion
heavyweight steer weighing 1215
pounds.
In the showmanship contest,
Jessica Schmidt, Drumore won
the Intel! calf for placing first.
Daniel Fox, New Holland won the
$3OO check toward the purchase
of a steer from Lancaster Farming
as reserve showman. Daniel had
previously won the Intel! and was
not eligible to compete again for
it.
A pair of Angus heifers topped
the heifer show. Katie Nolt had
