Ag Progress Days is also the site of the 4-H Equine Skillathon, here Aug. 17. All 2000 Pennsylva nia 4- H horse club members are invited to compete. Components of the skillathon are: • Division 1, horse less, new for 2000. In cluded are identification stations, a written test, and the contestant must judge one conformation halter class. • Division 2, with horse. This includes identification stations, a written test, and a showmanship contest. For the identifica tion stations, subjects may include topics from project books. The written test in cludes general knowl edge of horses, horse riding ability, and related topics. In the showmanship contest, participants will show their 4-H project horses and be judged according to the cur rent state 4-H horse show rulebook. For judging, con testants will rank a class of four horses ac cording to ideal con formation standards for the class. There are three age categories for each di vision (4-H age as ol Jan. 1, 2000): 8-11 years old, 12- 14 years old, and 15-18 years old. The champion re ceives a $2OO savings bond. The reserve re ceives a $lOO savings bond. Horseless competi tion begins at 10 a.m. sharp (registration at 9 a.m.). With-horse competition begins at 1 p.m. sharp (registra tion begins at noon). Contestants must be enrolled in a Pennsyl vania 4-H horse or horseless project. Par ticipants must use their current 4-H project horses if com peting in the with horse division. Horses must have verification of current negative EIA status (within one year) and rabies vacci nation for 2000. These must be presented at registration.
