Stop by the Demonstra tion Tent at the south end of the demo field to see the latest inno vations in manure application machinery and custom spread ers and talk with experienced applicators. Displays will cover the “Five Keys To Nutrient Management Planning.” To start your nutrient management plan, there will be soil sample bags, forage analysis kits, and manure sampling containers at the site. If you’d like to know the pH of your soil, bring a sample to the field days and Cornell Co operative Extension educators will test it right there. Have questions about weeds or crop insects? Bring a sample from your fields and find some answers. • Livestock handling demon strations. Back by popular demand, the livestock handling demonstrations are scheduled at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily (weather permitting). Attendees can watch a livestock handling demonstration that illustrates several types of chute and corral systems working cattle safely and easily. A number of the Empire Heifer Development an imals will be on display. Dis cussions of beef quality assurance, vaccination protocol, feeder calf management, and best handling techniques will also be covered. The livestock handling demonstrations are co ordinated by the CCE NWNY Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Team and Empire Farm Days. Livestock handling demon strations are conducted on the southeast side of the exhibit area near the Demonstration Tent. • Pesticide recertification talks. These are offered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. Farm ers can attend the hour-long talks and receive recertification credits. Also at Empire Farm Days is the Farm Bureau Family Center, which includes: • A chance to visit the cen ter’s “Farm Corner” to get the “feel” for milking with “Li’l Belle,” herd replica, who was specially constructed for this ex perience, and collect eggs, pick apples, grapes, and more.
