ROCKSPRING (Centre Co.)
Forty years ago, in 1960, the Penn
sylvania Grassland Council, which
later became the Pennsylvania
Forage and Grassland Council
(PFGC), was formed by a group of
farmers, industry representatives,
and educators with a single vision:
“working together for better forage
programs.”
The PFGC was the first state
forage and grassland organization
in the U.S. Its formation served as a
model for the other 34 councils that
have formed in the U.S. and
tion, Wayne Harpster’s Ever

Pa. Forage And Grassland Council
To Celebrate 40th Anniversary
(Continuod from Pago 1)
Canada.
The trials, tribulations, and suc
cesses of the first council’s 40-year
existence have been wonderfully
documented in a book by John
Baylor. The book begins with grass
land agriculture leading up to the
formation of the PFGC and follows
the journey of both grassland agri
culture and the PFGC through
present day.
To recognize this proud 40-year
history, the PFGC is planning an
anniversary celebration on Wednes
day, Aug. 16, at Evergreen Farms’
