Janet Spangler writes that Rich Food has a very good fat-free rasp berry vinaigrette made with red raspberry puree and red wine vinegar. It contains no oil, and has 35 calories per two tablespoons. He wanted to know how to prevent healthy-looking plants with fruit on suddenly (almost overnight) wilt from the center out and die off. Thanks to Janet Spangler, York Springs, for answering. She had this problem with zucchini vines and discovered com borers cause this type of damage. At the first sign of wilt, take the vine and break it open. Look for the larvae and kill it. The borer has already laid the eggs and the young feed on the stalk. Ask for a spray from a garden supply store or something to put on the plant to prevent dam age. ANSWER A Mercersburg reader can no longer find butternut flavoring sold by Blair of Lynchburg, VA. The product was sold by the bottle as a fundraiser for groups and organiza tions. The reader has tried other brands of the butternut flavoring but didn’t get the same flavorful results. She wanted to know how to obtain the Blair brand.
