Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers
steady. Feeder heifers steady to 1.00
lower. Demand opened light to moderate
for feeders but turned good by late morn
ing. Token rains in parts of corn belt
stimulated feeder demand as grain fu
tures declined. Also graze-out wheat
now tough and some cattle have
dropped weight providing buyers with
more attractive flesh conditions. Steer
and heifer calves 1.00-4.00 lower with
most decline on heifers. Calves mostly
unweaned new crops and demand fairly
good for these. Feeder cattle in medium
to fleshy conditions with increased num
bers toward medium flesh. Weigh-ups
average to full. Quality plain to average,
few attractive.
Slaughter cows and bulls 1.00 lower.
Packer demand moderate at best.
Demand good for replacements and
pairs. Total of 385 cows and bulls sold
with 45 percent to packers.
Receipts this week 13,350; last week
11,292; last year 11,697.
Supply consisted of 85 percent year
lings over 600 lbs; 12 percent calves
under 600 lbs; 3 percent cows and bulls.
Heifers comprised 45 percent of feeder
and calf supply.
Prices follow with weighted average
