awards, Bemeta’s son won the
Sewickley Trophy for being
named champion of the youth
show at the 2000 Pennsylvania
Farm Show. Snider Homestead
Farms won the John Brachman
Award, and Jan Snider, Bemeta’s
newphew, took home die George
W. Snyder Award for being
champion at the Pennsylvania
Junior Dairy Show.
Allen Smith, who with his wife,
Irene, owns Turkey Valley Farm
in Hollidaysburg, received the
Pennsylvania Walk of Fame
Award. Now age 78, Allen was
bom on the Turkey Valley Farm
and farmed until four years ago
when a “bum” leg forced him to
retire.
The Smiths own a large herd of
registered Guernseys, Belgian
horses, and Black Angus cattle.
They have two daughters, Shelva,
who lives at home, and Sharon
Sollenberger, wife of Wayne.
They also have grand children,
including Wayne, Mark, Melissa,
and Michelle.
