Hans Herr Chapter Four members of Lancaster Mennonite High School’s Hans Herr FFA Chapter attended the State Legislative Leadership Conference in the Grantville, Harrisburg, and Hershey areas in March. The conference trained students in how the state government works. Students who participated in cluded James Eby, son of Dennis and Ellen Eby in Gap; Paul Hostetter, son of James and Mary Louise Hostetter in Chad Hurst, son of George and Mary Hurst in Lititz; and Jeremy Ranck, son of James and Joan Ranck from Christiana. Conference highlights in cluded a legislative breakfast, where FFA members spent time socializing with senators and representatives. FFA members also had a chance to participate in a legislative simulation and learn more about the legislative process through workshops and hands-on activities. They also toured Milton Hershey High School, the Hershey Zoo, Her shey Chocolate Factory, and the historic state capitol. Those members were Kevin Hoover, Amanda Gehr, Andrew Railing, Garrett Neff, Andy Smith, Ken Greider, Jolene Whirt, Kimberly Ebersole, Duane Stoner, and Josh Murray. From those members who re ceived the Red Rose Degree, two students from each school are interviewed by a panel of judges who select the County Stars in the areas of Ag Business and Ag Production. This vear both stars were members of the Manor FFA. Duane Stoner was the Star Agribusiness Person, and Gar rett Neff was the Star in Agricul ture Production. The Manor FFA Dairy Foods Team competed in the Lancas ter County Dairy Foods Contest on March 23. The team, made up of Brian Kiefer, Korte Shearer, Charles Clark, Bill Bresch, Andrew Herr, Adam Marzean, Mike Ross, Tom Appel, and Tyler Rohrer, placed first in the county. Four of the Manor FFA contestants also will compete in the state contest at Penn State in June. Mike was the second place individual, and Adams was the fourth place in dividual. Danville FFA Chapter The Danville FFA Chapter held its annual banquet on March 23 at the Montour- Delong Fairgrounds. 135 mem bers and parents attended the meeting. Newly-elected officers were installed during the banquet. 2000-2001 officers include Alicia Wolfe, president; Amanda Brown, vice president; Rebecca Cope, secretary; Rebecca Fritz, treasurer; Jamie Wemple, sen tinel; Melissa Wolfe, reporter; Josh Jones, chaplain. Three junior officers were also in stalled, including Amy Welliver, junior secretary; Brian Fritz, junior reporter; and Michael Woodruff, junior treasurer. This year’s annual banquet featured Pennsylvania Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding as the keynote speaker. he Deputy Secretary spoke about the changing trends in ag riculture and the importance of the future youth involvement in agriculture. The evening also included awards presentations.
