CATTLE: Compared to last week’s
closing prices, slaughter steers closed .50
lower. Finished steers made up a larger
percentage of the total receipts than
cows for the first time in months. Al
though the fat cattle market has slipped
lower at the local auctions over the last

spcctable level on the open market, espe
cially for the high Choice and Prime
cattle that continue to be in short
supply. Western fecdlot prices opened
the week slightly lower, but good
dressed beef movement and an improv
ing futures market helped prices end
fully steady to firm at 68.00-68.50 live
and mostly 108.00 dressed. Local Hol
stein steers finally succumbed to down
ward pressure and ended the week
steady to 1.00 lower, while slaughter
heifer prices closed weak on a thin test.
The slaughter cow market ended mostly
steady with some strength noted on the
leaner types. Slaughter bulls finished
steady to 1.00 lower. Supply included 41
percent slaughter steers, 7 percent
slaughter heifers, 38 percent slaughter
cows, 7 percent bulls, with the balance
feeders.
