She told of the latest legislation being intro duced in Congress affecting dairy farmers and the impact on the dairy economy She empha sized the importance of farmers writing to their Congressmen and voicing their concern about legislation affecting the dairy and agriculture industries Mrs Watkins reported that many Congressmen relate that they do not hear from the farmer about legislation that affects their industry and instead rely on information given to them by lobbyists She accentuated that the farmer cannot rely solely on farm organizations to relay the message to our elected represen tatives about legislation that directly affects their personal and farm profitability and future Receiving the Progressive Breeders Registry awards given by Holstein Association USA Inc were Wall Brothers Dairy, Blacksburg (21 years), Dogwood Farm, Purcellville (9 years), Eastview Farm, Beaverdam (8 years), George W and John D Grove, Waynesboro (4 years), and Melvin Ronk, Roanoke (1 year) Progressive Genetics herd Awards were presented to James M Cook, Penhook (7 years); Harvey and Sharon Gasser, McGayesville (6 years), George and John D. This was an excel lent presentation and the audi ence enjoyed seeing the animal that won each award Virginia Holstein President Robert Pemberton presented the Distinguished Young Holstein Breeders Award to Lee and Dale Heizer of Heiz Acres Holstein, Middlebrook. The Heizers will be eligible to compete in the national Distinguished Young Breeders Contest at the national Holstein convention. At the annual meeting of the Virginia Junior Holstein Association Aaron Shiflett of Fort Definance was elected pres ident; Azh Waldron, Churchville, vice president; Sarah Leonard of Midland, secretary; Meghan Mackintosh of Berryville trea surer and Danny Hardesty of Berryville as elected reporter.
