Intensive grazing in drought con ditions is not easy, but the cows at Kick-a-Moo Farm in Tioga County, site of an Aug. 21 field day sponsored by the Tioga County Coopera tive Extension, Penn sylvania Association for Sustainable Agricul ture, Tioga County NRCS, and the North ern Penn Holistic Re source Management (HRM) group, are still on pasture and still pro ducing milk. “We’re still going,” said Russ Tomlinson, who operates the farm with his wife, Karen. “We’ve still got grass.” Statewide the lack of rain and the heat wave have “just put the ham mer to milk produc tion,” he said. Produc tion on Kick-a-Moo, with 44 acres and a mixed herd of 40 cows, is down some, and the cows are being fed a lit tle more in the barn.
