The However, the Dairy of Distinction Program, begun in 1983, increased its requirements for those seeking to win the attractive red and white signs presented to winners. For a number of years the program also checks with the company that receives the milk from the applying farm, to ensure that it meets respect able quality standards. Photographs of the winning farms and brief descriptions of the families and operations are to be published in Lancaster Farming later this year. Also, winners are invited to attend a special recognition program held at Penn State University’s Ag Progress Days in August. Those whose applications were not accepted this year are eligible to re submit an application next year. There are several sources for additional information for those in Pen nsylvania interested in applying next year contact a regional commit tee member, a local Extension agent, look for applications in Lancaster Farming and other daily and farming publications, or write to: Michael O'Conner, 324 Henning Building, Department of Dairy and Animal Sci ence, Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802, or call (814) 863-3913.
