Lancaster County Weekly NEW HOLLAND, PA FRI JULY 2, 1999 CATTLE CALVES 2431 1659 2(48 1585 1993 1577 THIS WEEK LAST WEEK LAST YEAR CATTLEs Compared to last week’s closing prices, slaughter steers and heif ers closed JO-IjOO lower. Prices were significantly lower for the second week in a row on the heels of another USDA Inventory report. This week it was the hogs and pigs report, instead of the eattle-on-feed, that was bearish enough to cause hog markets to plummet and fat cattle prices to continue their decline. Retailers also have their meatcases packed for the upcoming holiday weekend, which pulled demand out from under the dressed beef market. This, along with seasonal trends, has ofOdally put the cattle market in a sum mer slump. Western feeders took 2.00 less for thdr cattle at 64.00 and 101.00- 102.00. Local Holstein steers held their ground fairly well and closed mostly steady to only weak. Slaughter cow prices ended <5O-1,50 higher with good demand as many auctions further south are closed for the 4th of July. The slaughter bulla closed iO-UM lower with Isle-week losses. Supply included SI percent slaughter steers, 5 percent slaughter heifers, 29 percent slaughter cows, 4 percent slaughter bulls, with the balance made up of feeder cattle, SLAUGHTER STEERS: High Choice iaaiaiauuammmuHaamuiuHatataunauuaiaiaumiauHflmuiuiLiiaiaiaiatauHauicicimmiauuiptau E Wittier, Incorporated I lauiLniimia B yrf B /■T/ b nW b MHJi B I IM B V'VW B UB m vOT Your Source for Quality Cattle Licensed and Bonded Cattle Brokers C C C te c I E taHiHit'iHiaaHiH Inside Pennsylvania: 717-626-3113 FAX: 717-626-1260 Toll-Free Outside of PA: 1-800-485-2233 QUALITY FEEDER CATTLE Financing Available * Fixed Interest Rates • Interest Due when Cattle Are Sold • No Monthly Payments Cattle Dealers • Licensed & Bonded 2300 Fallston Road • Fallston MD 21047 Lance N.
