Trio To Vie For York Dairy Princess Title JOYCE BUPP York Co. Correspondent A trio of young dairy women will compete for the crown of York County Dairy Princess dur ing the annual pageant at the 4- H Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 26. Six additional young ladies will participate in the pageant program as candidates for the dairy promotion team in the Dairy Maid, Dairy Miss, and Li’l Dairy Miss categories. Princess candidates are Rebecca Kilgore, Holly Rankin, and Michelle Walker. Participating as Dairy Maids will be April Daugherty and Janet Yoke. In the Dairy Miss categoiy are Jelee Anstine, Amy Baumgardner, and Amanda Hoover, with Amber Thoman the Li’l Dairy Miss candidate. The Kilgore family milks 50 head and farms 320 acres at their McCall’s Ferry Road farm. Holly Rankin, 16, is the daughter of Jon and Sharon Rankin, Bellevue Road, Red Lion. She is a junior and FFA member at Red Lion Area High School, with future plans to pur sue agriculture studies at Penn State or Delaware Valley (Continued from Pago B 20) A member of the state Ayrshire Bowl Team, Holly is also active in 4-H, enjoys cattle shows and is a rodeo enthusiast. She is employed at the Heindel family diary farm near Airville, and enjoys field work as well as working with cattle. Michelle Walker, 16, is the daughter of Leroy and Brenda Walker, Thomasville. She is a junior at York Area Vocational Technical School, where she is president-elect of the Honor Society, active in health Occupations Students of America and Communities that Care. She participates in the O’Brian Youth Leadership pro gram. A member of the York 4-H dairy clubs and National Junior Holstein Association, Michelle owns and exhibits four show animals. She works on the Walker family’s 104-head, 100- plus acre dairy operation with both milking and field chores. Dairy Miss representatives April Daugherty and Jane Yohe have both served previously with the county’s dairy promo tion team. April, 15, is the daughter of Philip and Terry Daugherty, Lemon Street, York. A sopho more student at New Freedom Christian School, April is a member of the 4-H Beef Club. She works with both dairy and field responsibilities in helping to care for the Daugherty fami ly’s 32-head dairy herd. Janet helps with milking responsibilities at the Stump Acres dairy operation, where her father is a partner. Dairy Miss participant Jelee Anstine, 7, is the daughter of Charles and Lynn Anstine, West' Ninth Avenue, York. She is in the third grade at Hayshire Elementary School. Amy Baumgardner, 8, is the daughter of dairy producers Daniel and Lori Baumgardner, Barrens Church Road, Dillsburg, and a second-grader. Amanda Hoover, 11, is the daughter of Rose and Paul Hoover, who operate a dairy goat herd on their East Prospect farm. Amber Thoman, daughter of York Dairy Princess program coordinator Gail and Gary Thoman, is 5, and in her third year taking part in the promo tion activities as a Lil Miss. She will enter kindergarten in September. York area dairy farm families and dairy industry supporters are invited to attend the annual pageant. The pageant will mark the final appearance and farewell of reigning York County Dairy Princess Jessica Pomraning, Delta, whose last official duty will be the crowning of her successor.
