Dr. Jack Watson, exten sion specialist and research scien tist in the University of Arizona’s Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science, has been appointed state program leader for agriculture and natural resources with Penn State Cooperative Ex tension and Outreach. As state program leader, Wat son provides leadership and sup port for the development, imple mentation, evaluation of statewide educational programs centering on all aspects of animal and plant agriculture, horticulture, and na tural resource issues. Penn State Co operative Extension is dedicated to providing research-based solu tions and non-formal educational programs to citizens in all 67 counties of the commonwealth.” Watson’s tenure at the Univer sity of Arizona began in 1984, when he was hired as a post-doc toral associate in the Department of Soils, Water and Engineering. Late that year, he was appointed to OOP ALLS_ J a faculty position as assistant ex tension specialist in the soil, wa-' ter, and environmental science de partment He was promoted to as sociate extension specialist in 1988 and earned his promotion to extension specialist and research scientist in 1996. Before coming to the Univer sity of Arizona, Watson worked as a research scientist in the Com monwealth Scientific and Indus trial Research Organization’s Di vision of Environmental Mechan ics in Canberra, Australia. Watson earned a bachelor’s de gree in education/mathematics from Kent State University in 1973. He continued his education at the University of Arizona, earn ing a master’s degree in 1979 and a doctorate in 1982 both in soil and water science.
