Offers Honey Loan
POTTSVILLE (Schuylkill
Co.) The U.S. Department of
Agriculture has been authorized to
implement a 9-month loan prog
ram for honey produced in 1998.
Producers who have extracted
honey during 1998 may place the
honey under loan if it is stored in
eligible containers.
The loans will only be available
during a 60-day period after the
regulations are published in the
Federal Register.
The honey loan program will
utilize a loan rate of 56 cents per
pound, and the loans will mature
nine months after the month a spe
cific loan has been approved.

during the loan period, and the
USDA Farm Service Agency will
conduct spot checks during the
storage period to assure
compliance.
The program is national, and
those interested should contact
their local USDA Farm Service
Agency. Federal agencies arc
listed in the blue pages of tele
phone directories.

the USDA FSA office is located on
