For the annual Holstein show in the county, this was the “first time in several years the county show made a profit," said Hess. According to Bill Allen of the state association, the group has been busy selling animals in the export market. Recently, 1,000 head of Holsteins were shipped to the country of Lebanon. Another 700 head were shipped this week to Saudi Arabia. Japan has placed a bred heifer order, and next year, additional cattle will be shipped to Saudi Arabia. They also do a good tut of sales domestically. The state Holstein Convention is scheduled Feb. 18-20 at the Ramada Inn in Wilkes-Barre.
