For the first time in recent mem ory, a single exhibitor swept the breed and market lamb competi tion Monday afternoon and early evening at the Reading Fair here at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. Amanda Miller swept the breed competition for her first time at the Reading Fair Sheep Show, win ning both supreme champion over all ewe and champion ram with Southdowns. She also won grand champion market lamb with her 94-pound medium weight class Shropshire/Southdown crossbred. Amanda, 13. is the daughter of Ron and Joan Miller, Womelsdorf. In the seventh grade at Tulpehock en Middle School. Amanda showed a ram lamb to champion ram and a yearling ewe to champ ion ewe Monday at Reading. Amanda said the ram is home bred. The ewe was purchased from Champion ewe at the Reading Fair went to Amanda Miller, who swept the breed show, winning both champion ram and ewe. Miller Sweeps Fruendt Ewe, Monticello, DL It was a combination of regular feed ing programs, according to her father, Ron, and good sheep gene tics that allowed her to gamer a championship. Her mother, Joan, said this was the first time Amanda won champ ion showman at the fair. Reserve market lamb champion went to Amanda Gauker, 12, daughter of Barry and Jackie Gauker, Fleetwood. Amanda is in the seventh grade at Fleetwood Middle School She showed a heavyweight 106-pound purebred Southdown named “Bob.” She has won before at the Reading Fair sheep competition. Show judge Clyde Brubaker, a Hampshire sheep and Angus cattle breeder from Robesonia, said the champion market lamb exhibited by Miller is one that is going to produce “a lot of red meat,” a lamb with a “lot of balance, loin, leg of lamb, a very correct, very trim kind Reading Fair Sheep Show At the show, winners of the market lamb project competition were announced. According to Roger Bowman, the market lamb project incorpo rates three phases: a skillathon which represents 40 percent of the overall score, showmanship com petition (at 20 percent), and the market lamb placings, at 40 percent There woe a total of 20 exhibi tors.
