Holstein Named Supreme At Somerset Fair

MEYERSDALE (Somerset
Co.) An FFA, owner-bred
entry was named supreme
champion at the Somerset
County Fair Dairy Show.
Destiny Charles Julie, a
senior two-year-old owned by
Philip Wayne Petenbrink,
Garrett is a daughter out of
Boulet charles-ET and Destiny
Blackstar Jem. Her birth was
October 28, 1995.
The animal also was the
Holstein reserve champion for
Petenbrink, who belongs to the
Meyersdale FFA
Desirae Hillegass had the
Holstein grand champion in the
open show with Locker-Lane

freshman at the Univensty of
Pittsburgh’s Johnstown campus,
has had 4-H sewing projects to
enter m competition
The skilled sewer says a first
place was often awarded or even
Best of Show for the handmade
entries she brought.
Three times she has received
the Junior Wool Award
Ask, however, what is her
favorite part of the fair and don’t
be surprised to hear it’s the cot
ton candy that she finds most
irresistible
The kid’s pedal power compe
tition was a blast The tykes
spent every bit of energy they
could muster to achieve dis
tance, while the fair queen
under a fascinating crown, make
each one feel special with her
bright smile
To children not quite bold
enough to compete, there was a
coloring book handout
Being in the public eye, obvi

Club, she’s been secretary, a
junior leader and 4-H’er of the
Year A member, also of county
council, the seamstress has been
named to the state top 10 in 4-H
Fashion Revue
Among her scholastic honors,
while in high school Julie was a
member of the 1000+ SAT Club
Julie is the daughter of Rick
and Audrey Sechler of
Meyersdale, and a member of
the Meyersdale Grace Brethren
Church.
' First runner-up in the fair
lueen contest was Erica Stair.
Erin Livengood was second run
ner-up. Vying also were Tara
Hottle, Jill Brant, and Katie
Shaulis.

lambs and 213 market swine at
the Somerset County 4-H and
FFA Livestock Sale held during
the county fair.
Steers brought $70,425;
lambs, $20,295 and swine,
$79,828 during the six hours of
bidding.
Premier buyer Lincoln
Supply and Equipment, which
bought 12 animals during the
sale for a total outlay of $11,067,
bought Lucas Svonavec’s grand
champion steer.
The 1,250-pound animal
brought $3.75 a pound for a total
of $4,687.50.
Svonavec, 16, is from
Rockwood,
Dr. Robert Bastian took the
reserve champion steer, of Jason
Fisher, Boswell, that weighed
1,215 pounds for a $2 price tag,
for a total of $2,430.
The steer was also the county
bred champion.
Jeffrey Knotts, Meyersdale,
had the county bred reserve
champion, which brought
$1,574, when purchased for
$1.25 from Renaissance
Nutrition.
