Carroll County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale Grosses $130,000 WESTMINSTER, Md. - A total of 211 animals grossed over $130,000 at the recent 1998 Carroll County 4-H/FFA fundraising livestock sale. Melissa Moll <HD HD^HD m A Steers averaged 97 cents per pound on 58 lots. The grand champion steer, a 1,245-pound crossbred named "Jack" was sold by 14-year-old Mike Utz of Lineboro. C.J. Miller Inc of Hampstead, and Masonry Max Homes of Manchester, purchased the steer for $2.50 per pound. The reserve grand champion steer belonged to 13-year-old Jesse Amoss of Union Bridge. His crossbred steer, "Mr. Play Wright," weighed in at 1,280 pounds, and was purchased by Hoss' Steak and Sea House, Hanover, for $1.50 per pound. s 1 hog was purchased by Lin Ear's PTL Acres, Woodbine, for $2.10 per pound. There were tow fund-raiser hogs, raised by 4-Hers, sold at the sale, with the proceeds ear marked for the ag center build ing fund. The Feeser Family Hog was raised by 16-year-old Tim Cole, Manchester Tim's 220-pound crossbred barrow brought $3.50 per pound from Reifsnider Vet and Farm Supply of Keymar. The Fogle Septic Hog was raised by 12-year-old Tim Owings, of Manchester. The 260- pound crossbred barrow was purchased by Flemings Bros. Inc. of Hampstead for $1.90 per pound. The Union National Bank steer was also a fundraiser to benefit the ag center building the ag center building fund. Heathers 120-pound crossbred wether brought $9 per pound from Bohn Pontiac, Westminster. The reserve grand champion market lamb, also a crossbred wether, was sold by 17-year-old Eddie Harrison of Woodbine, K.C. Farms, Ken Bauer, purchased the 110-pound lamb for $7 per pound. The Geiman Family lamb was raised by 9-year-old Ryan Thurston, Manchester, and sold to benefit the building fund. Ryan's 105-pound crossbred ewe brought $2-per pound from R.F. Warner and Sons Inc., of Frederick. Two market goats averaged $275 per head. The grand champion market goat in dairy breeds was a Nubian sold by 17-year old Mary Kaminski, Manchester. The goat brought $2OO from A&W Country meats, Taneytown. The grand champion market goat m meat breeds was a Boer cross sold by 11- year-old Brandy Feeser, Taneytown Brandy's goat was purchased by County Acres Farm, the Zepp Family, Westminster, for $350. Two pens of market rabbits were sold for an average of $307.50. Brothers Mike and Jim Thompson of Westminster each sold a pen of three California market rabbits. Eight year old Mike had the champion pen, purchased by Plumbing, Heating, and Supplies Inc., Westminster, for $325. The same buyer purchased 12-year-dld Jim Thompson's reserve champion pen of market rabbits for $290. The champion and reserve champion pair of capons sold for an average of $240 on the two ■ lots. Eleven year old Amy Ridinger of Taneytown sold her champion pair of capons to Fogle Refuse and Septic, Inc. Sykesville, for $270 for the pair.
