Roberts High School. Phillip said
he and his father selected the hog
from the Parlett and Holloway Sale
at the Solanco Fairgrounds at the
end of April.
Phillip said the judge, Ken
Winebark, Myerstown, liked the
hog’s leanness. Phillip has won
champion hog and reserve champ
ion before at the Chester County
sale. He plans to attend Farm Show
to show hogs.
Phillip’s reserve champion was
sold to Hoss’s Steak and Seafood
House, represented by Erik Lind
berg and Craig Campbell, for
$2.50 per pound for a total of $645.
The Howe sisters, Julia, 13, and
Sara, 16, swept the market lamb
show on Monday. Both home
schooled, they are the daughters of
Lamar and Mary Howe,
Julia, grand champion, won
with a 114-pound medium weight
champion, a crossbred Suffolk
wether named “Andy.” Julia, a
seventh grader, said she named
two sheep in her flock “Raggedy
Ann and Andy.”
Julia noted that the lamb was
purchased in May at the New Hol
land Sales Stables. Sara, who won

There were a total of six steers,
34 sheep, and 94 hogs at the sale.
Sale averages with champions
were steers, $1.38 per pound,
lambs $2.53 per pound, and hogs
$1.15 per pound. Sale averages
without champions were steers,
$.90 per pound; lambs, $2.34 per
pound; and hogs, $l.ll per pound.
Gross sale total was $45,620.50.
