Ohio Junior Walks Wins $2,427
In Jersey Pot O’Gold Contest
REYNOLDSBURG. Ohio
Imagine going to a cattle auction,
buying a yearling heifer, then
three years later pocketing a check
for about $2,400 in a contest based
upon her first lactation.
That’s exactly what Andrew
Bok, a 10-year-old 4-H’er from
Defiance, Ohio, has done with his
heifer. “Vera,” in the 1998 Pot
O’Gold Production Contest spon
sored by the American Jersey Cat
tle Association of Reynoldsburg,
Ohio.

Twenty-two heifers sold in two
Pot O’Gold sales in 1995 were eli
gible for this event. First-calf lac
tation records for each entry were
standardized, the dollar value was
calculated using Federal Order 33

the MCP dollar value of the record
was $4,466.95.
Derrick L. Josi, from Tilla
mook, Oregon, is the second place
winner and receives $1,473.90.
