pounds of milk to a 34,350 m herd
average provided the basis for

was proposed to bring people
together to show new management
practices not well known in south
east Pennsylvania.
“We ate looking at such prac

plemental lighting, and heat stress
management,” Card said. “We
want to show people what is com

Summer Barn Management Meetings Held
management seminars he was
showing what was being done in
the Stoltzfus herd with feeding
rations and other little things that
improve production.
“I get into farm operations
where simple things like a dry
water bowl or malfunctioning cow
trainers are overlooked,” Stehr
said. “Simple things that farmers
take for granted can help greatly
with the overall production of the
herd. Along with what we are
doing to balance rations with qual
ity forages here, Marvin also takes
care of all the little things in cow
comfort needed in good herd
management”
Dan McFarland, multi-county
extension engineering specialist,
spoke on the topic of lighting and
how production can be affected.
Dr. Mike Lormore, DVM with
Monsanto, presented ideas on how
to deal with heat stress in the dairy
herd. Glenn Shirk, Lancaster
County dairy agent had the topic
“What’s new in water?”
Card also presented the herd
