Using manager and city advertising
manager for the Philadelphia
Inquirer and Daily News. Since
1993, he has been publisher of
Suburban Publications (a division
of Journal Register Company in
Wayne) and Hanover
Publications/Evcning Sun (a divi
sion of Media News Group of
Hanover).
In making the retirement
announcement, Campbell who
owned Lancaster Farming prior
to its sale to Lancaster Newspapers
in 1987, said it is time to let the
next team take over.
“After 43 years, I think it is time
to turn the operation over to a new
generation,” Campbell said. “It
was a great experience developing
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 30, 1998-A27
an idea into a successful business.”
The impact on the regional agri
business economy by Robert
Campbell in his work as publisher
of Lancaster Farming is well
documented. Many ag leaders
believe he has done more for agri
culture than any other person in the
business.
Campbell is also well known in
the area for his active participation
in various groups and organiza
tions over the years.
He is a past president of the
Junior Chamber of Commerce, a
former board member of AAA, a
past president of American Busi
ness Clubs, Conestoga Chapter,
and a former regional board mem
ber of Mellon Bank, to ruunc a few.
