CMancttt* Farming, Saturday, May 16. 1998 MILLERS VILLE (Lancaster Co.) Manor FFA’s 38th annual banquet was held April 16 in the Penn Manor High School cafeteria. Awards were presented to rec ognize student and community member achievements. This year 10 seniors in FFA received Key stone awards, the highest FFA honor statewide. At the banquet, Jerry Phillips from Keystone Farm Credit received the Blue and Gold Award for many years of FFA support at the local fairs. Also, the following awards were also presented: Leadership Award: Emily Hubbs, Adam Nissley, Audrey Nissly. Holly Nissley. Ryan Nelson, and Jeremy Railing. Star Red Rose Placement: Tyler Swanson. Star Red Rose Produc tion: Beth Frey. Star Chapter FFA Award, Placement: Adam Nissley. Star Greenhand Award, Placement: Austin Kibler. Star Chapter FFA Award, Production: Alan Herr, Jr. Star Greenhand Award, Produc tion: Garrett Neff. Outstanding Fanning Program: Klint Frey. Outstanding Ag Mechanic: Dave Warihay. High Fruit Salesman, 9th grade: Cheri Lake. High Fruit Salesman, upperclassman: Jason Hamish. Also, Vince Metzler was named Outstanding Ag Student Vince, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Metz ler, Pequea, was named winner of the 1998 Dekalb Agriculture Accomplishment Award. Metzler, Who attends Penn MAndr, has been president and adviser of Man or FFA, Student of the Month, and an Honor Roll student His agricul tural program consists of com, hay, wheat and vegetables. After graduation, Vince plans to work for Gerlach’s Drilling and blasting and production farming. Team Places First This year’s Manor FFA dairy products team placed first in the Lancaster County competition at the Lampeter Strasburg High School in March. The contest involved many aspects of the dairy industry. Some include identifying vari ous artificial products, inspecting milking equipment, and tasting and identifying vari ous cheeses and other dairy products. Team members were Garrett Neff, Cheti Lake, Andrew Railing, Ryan Boas. Josh Mur ry, and Julie Greider. Eastern Region Public Speaking At the end of April, three Manor FFA mem bers competed in the Pennsylvania state reg ion FFA public speaking contest Beth Frey received second place and Tyler Swanson received third in extemporaneous speaking. Cheri Lake placed second in the FFA creed speaking contest Tyler Swanson, Beth Frey, and Cheri Lake were chosen from this contest to compete in the state contest to be held June 9 during FFA Week at Penn State. Cheri Lake will be pre senting the FFA creed at the state contest and Tyler Swanson and Beth Frey will be present ing an extemporaneous speech. Manor FFA Honors Banquet Participants jny. ips,.
