David Wise, program biologist, has been recently hired by the partnership and is to support work to restore wetlands and stream side, or riparian, habitats in the Susquehanna River Basin in Penn sylvania. > Wise’s main task is to help in terested farmers restore poorly drained agricultural land to its for- REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio The American Guernsey Associa tion recently announced its living lifetime production award recipients. The awards are presented to rec ognize the leading lifetime produc ers of the Guernsey breed based on official production records veri fied by the AGA. The awards are to be presented during the AGA meeting March 26-30 at Louisville, Kentucky. This year, topping the lifetime list for milk and protein for the sec ond consecutive time is Herat O Gold Telestar Emily. Emily’s owners .n and will receive the Liebers Trophy for her highest living lifetime milk record, and the Arnold Knight Award, that recognizes her as the highest living lifetime protein producer. A daughter of Maurana Wis Delaware Valley College To Install DOYELESTOWN (Bucks Co ) - Delaware Valley College will inaugurate its 11th presi dent when the college's board of trustees installs Dr Thomas C Learner on April 8 at 1 30 p m in the James Work Gymnasium, located on the College's Doylestown campus Prior to assuming the role of Delaware Valley College's chief executive officer on July 14, 1997, Learner served as the vice president for academic affairs from 1982-93, and as executive vice president since 1993 at the State University of new York at Morrisville He twice served as acting president, from December 1983 to May 1984, and from May 1987 to January 1988, when he was responsible for the total campus operation. Announce Wetlands, Riparian Buffer Program mer wetland condition. Wetlands play crucial roles in wildlife habitat and water quality. Mote than a third of the nation’s troubled wildlife species rely on wetland habitats. Wetlands also trap sediments, remove pollutants such as excess nutrients, and help reduce flood damage. “Many farmers already recog nize that production from this land is marginal, and that if restored, the potential benefits to wildlife and water quality are substantial,” said Jolene E. Chinchilli, Pa. exe cutive director for Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Telestar, she is classified Very Good-88, and for the contest con sideration produced 214,340 pounds of milk, with 8,377 pounds of butterfat, and 7,323 pounds of protein. For the second year in a row, the top butterfat producer is Level Gold Deacons Elna. Bred by the late Eugene Jensen of Amery, Wis., she is currently owned by Lyle Jensen of Amery. Elna is to receive the Valley Set Award in recognition of top life time butterfat production. A Wistar Deacon daughter, Elna has lifetime records of 193,576 pounds of milk, 9,985 pounds of butterfat, and 6,997 pounds of pro tein. She was classified an Exccllent-91 at 9 years, 8 months of age. To be considered for the award, the cow must be alive by Dec. 31 of the year preceding, and have been in production on official test dur ing a portion of that year.
