CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers began trading steady, how
ever with heavy supplies price levels
trended 1.00 lower, especially for steers
over 1474 lbs. Compared to Monday Hols
teins traded mixed. Choice grades were
1.00 higher, while Select and low Choice
traded mostly 1.00 lower. Slaughter heifers
traded generally steady compered to Mon
day's auction. Slaughter cows traded 1.00
lower. Slaughter bulls were steady to 1.00
higher. Supply included 49 percent slaugh
ter stems and 40 percent slaughter cows.

LAST YEAR
CATTLE: Compared to last week's
closing prices, the slaughter steer market
ended with steady prices this week.
Slaughter heifer prices showed strength at
the beginning of the trading period, only to
drop off by Thursday. Demand was mod
erate for slaughter heifers in spite of the
limited offerings for the week. Slaughter
cow price levels were for the most pan
steady with last week. Prices for the fleshy
cows ended firm, while'lean cow prices
were slightly lower for the higher dressing
cows. Price levels for slaughter bulls began
the week steady but ended 1.00-2.00 lower.
Supply included 43 percent slaughter
steers, 7 percent slaughter heifers, 40 per
cent cows, 4 percent bulls, with the balance
feeders.
