It is the sec ond year the contest W2S held in the Family Living and Agricultural Learning Center, after an eight year hiatus. Last Year Rutt placed third. Second place at the Farm Show went to a Lancaster Countian, Lar ry Neuhauser, Lancaster. A total of 24 licensed auction eers participated in the contest that helped raise money for the Farm Show Youth Scholarship Founda tion. This year 13 scholarships worth $2,000 each were awarded to young people who have shown livestock at the Farm Show. One of the items offered for sale was the champion bushel of apples, along with a second bushel. It was sold for $250 to Omar Land is Auction Service who pve the bushel back to be sold again. In subsequent bidding, the apples were sold several times, netting a total of $6lO for the scholarship fund. The first $250 was donated to the Southcentral Food Bank. The bid-calling ability and auc tioneer’s speech were evaluated by the remaining four judges who lis tened to, rather than watched, the performance. The contest was coordinated by the Central Chapter of Pennsylva nia Auctioneer’s Association. The Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary. HERBICIDE HI RISK 11)1 Grazing Course Set LEONARDTOWN, Md. The University of Maryland Co operative Extension Services has scheduled a grazing short course for livestock producers in south on Maryland. The five-week program will be presented at two locations from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.: Prince George’s County Extension office in Clinton on Mondays from Feb. 23 through March 23 and at the St. Mary’s County State Office Building in Leonardtown on Tues days from Feb. 24 through March 24. Through the program, livestock and horse owners will receive in formation on the practices and benefits of controlled grazing and be given tools to begin more inten sive management of pastures. The cost for the program is $l5 per conferee registered by Feb. 9 ($25 after Feb. 9), $5 per guest, and includes one conference note book per conferee and refresh ments.
