4-H Horse Club Members Ride Into Spotlight At State Horse Show HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Dozens of Pennsyl vania 4-H horse club members recently vied for awards at the State 4-H Horse Show held late October here at the Farm Show Complex. The competition gave 4-H’ers an opportunity to display their horsemanship and sportsmanship skills. The state show culminates the year for approximately 7,500 Pennsylvania 4-H members enrolled in Ihe horse and pony 4-H clubs. To be eligible for this show, 4-H’crs had to advance through qualifying competitions at the county, regional, and district levels. Mae than 800 winners from the county and district competitions vied for awards. Events tested skills in showmanship, equitation, pleasure, jumping, driving, and timed events. The primary purpose of the stale 4-H horse program is to develop life skills in youth and skills in horse manage ment Through competition, the 4-H’ers develop riding skills, gain self confidence, and learn proper care of anitnals.
