Kelly Glaser. 16, doesn’t spell her
middle name C-O-R-R-I-E-D-A-
L-E.
But for as long as she can
remember, that type of sheep has
been the breed of choice at the
many events nationwide she has
participated in.
For her nearly decade-long
involvement with die industry, she
was crowned Berks County Lamb
and Wool Queen recently at the
Kutztown Fair.
Kelly, daughter of Karen and
Dave Kase, is a senior at Exeter
High School •in Reading. Her
grandmother, Ruth Hartman, was
instrumental in getting Kelly inter
ested in and involved with exhibit-

where she’s president Kelly has
been involved with 4-H for eight
years.
Kelly can readily name the vari
ous exhibitions she’s showed in,
including Kutztown, Allentown,
Oley, Denver, Kimberton, and
Schuylkill County fairs. She’s
shown at the Keystone Internation
al Livestock Exhibition (KELE),
Farm Show, North American
International Livestock Exhibi
tion, All-American Junior Show,
and national Corriedale shows.
She’s also been to the Midwest
Stud Ram Sale, Maryland Sheep

ANSWER Tammy Coleman, Millersburg, wanted a
recipe for homemade scented, decorative soaps to give as
gifts. She also wants a recipe for homemade soap with lye in it
and wants to know where to buy the lye. Thanks to Lisa Collins
for sending recipes. Lye can be purchased at grocery stores on
the shelves with drain openers. Lye must be handled with care.
Don’t use on aluminum, zinc or tin.
'A ounce lye
- '/« cup cold water
'A cup lukewarm fat
1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
In a plastic container, gently stir lye into cold water with
wooden spoon. Slowly add lukewarm fat. Continue to stir until
slightly thickened. Add lemon juice, stirring to mix thoroughly.
Pour mixture into plastic molds. Cover with plastic wrap and
leave for 24 hours. Remove soap from molds and allow to air
dry for 14 days. Yield: 1-2 medium bars.
Basic Perfumed Hand Soap
5 cups rain or soft water
'A cup powdered borax
11.6 ounces lye
11 cups fat
Add a trace:
1 ounce strawberry dye
2 ounces lanolin
3 ounces glycerin
3 tablespoons finely ground oatmeal
4 teaspoons aromatic rose geranium
Follow directions for other soap recipe.

named Boris. He’s around six or seven years old. Jennie
