    National Plowing
Match At FSR
LONDON, Ohio—Ready, set,
plow!
It will be “plows away" at the
Farm Science Review this year,
home to the 1997 national and
state plowing contests.
“I like to think of the plowing
match as the agricultural Olym
pics," said William A. Goette
moeller, secretary of the USA
Plowing Organization. “We really
don’t have anything competitive
in agriculture other than the plow
ing contest We don’t get out on
farms and plow as particular as in
the contest but we sure leant a lot
to take back to the farm.”
The National Plowing Match
will be Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. at the Molly Caren Agricul
tural Center near London. Ohio.
State delegates will compete in
small, large, antique and open
class plow divisions. They are
judged on straightness, evenness
of furrows, size of particles and
other criteria. The winners of the
large and small plow contests will
represent the United States in the
World Plowing Match to be held
in Germany in 1998.
“The small plow contest is usu
ally the most competitive,” said
Goettemoeller, a two-time nation
al champion. “There are some real
professionals that compete.”
