National Plowing Match At FSR LONDON, Ohio—Ready, set, plow! It will be “plows away" at the Farm Science Review this year, home to the 1997 national and state plowing contests. “I like to think of the plowing match as the agricultural Olym pics," said William A. Goette moeller, secretary of the USA Plowing Organization. “We really don’t have anything competitive in agriculture other than the plow ing contest We don’t get out on farms and plow as particular as in the contest but we sure leant a lot to take back to the farm.” The National Plowing Match will be Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Molly Caren Agricul tural Center near London. Ohio. State delegates will compete in small, large, antique and open class plow divisions. They are judged on straightness, evenness of furrows, size of particles and other criteria. The winners of the large and small plow contests will represent the United States in the World Plowing Match to be held in Germany in 1998. “The small plow contest is usu ally the most competitive,” said Goettemoeller, a two-time nation al champion. “There are some real professionals that compete.” An Invitation To Hybrid Seed Corn Field Pays T.A. The winner of the state contest will advance to the National Plowing Match. Awards wil be presented both days at 4 p.m. The last time the contest was held in London was during the 1987 Farm Science Review. The Farm Science Review is spon sored by Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environ mental Sciences and takes place Sept 16-18 at the Molly Carenr Agricultural Center near London, Ohio. Tickets are $4 in advance and $6 at the gate and can be pur chased from agribusinesses and county offices of OSU Extension. Children 12 and younger get free admission. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Bring the Family Bucks County Holds 4-H Show, Sale DOYLESTOWN (Bucks Co.) Recently, 23 4-H’ers partici pated in die Bucks County 4-H Market Swine Show and Sale at the Perkiomenvillc Auction. John Crooke, New Hope, won grand champion with his 270-pound hog. Hatfield Packing bought the champion for $2.35 per pound. Jeff Buckman, Sellers villc, won grand champion pair of market „ hogs. They were purchased by Leidy’s Inc. for $1.75 per pound. The 245-pound reserve champ ion, owned by Jim Harris, Perka sie, was also sold to Leidy’s for $1.70 per pound. Andrew Crooke, New Hope, won reserve champion pair of hogs. They were bought by Hatfield Packing for $1 per pound. Matt Crooke, New Hope, was the champion showman of the day. Peter Crooke.
