BAIR (York Co.) Thomas
ville 4-H’er Adam Sellers made a
clean sweep of the top placings at
the York County junior market
livestock summer show and sale,
exhibiting both the champion hog
and lamb.
The annual summer roundup
show was held at the 4-H Center
on Aug. 9 and 11. Wrapping up
the event was the sale of the
judged animals, with the 78 hogs
and 33 lambs generating a com
bined $27,917 for the 53 partici
pating 4-H members.
Dual champion winner Sellers,
18, is a veteran livestock breeder
and showman, winner of numer
ous awards over the past several
years in both 4-H and open class
competition. A June graduate of
Spring Grove Area High School,
he plans to begin studies in 1998
at an Illinois junior college where
he can continue his interest in live
stock judging. During the year
interim. Sellers expects to con
tinue his employment on an area
farm and complete his final year in
1998 of 4-H eligibility.
Swine Sale
Mediumweight hogs proved
especially popular in the swine
show, with that weight division
champion and reserve claiming
the overall show titles in the final
runoffs. Finishing behind Sellers’
mediumweight and grand champ
ion was Jessica Innerst, Red Lion,
in the reserve spot
Adam Sellers’ 233-pound,
purple-ribbon winner opened the
swine sale which followed. It was
purchased after a round of spirited
bidding by Hatfield Packing Com
pany, long-time area livestock
youth supporters, for a $2.25 per
pound price.
Second in the hog sale lineup
was 9-year-old junior member
Jessica Innerst, with her
231-pound homebred entry. The
reserve winner brought the sale’s
top price, $3 per pound, and sold
to Hake’s Farm and Seed Service
of Red Lion.
A pair of crossbred Duroc litter
mates got the judge’s nod for the
champion pair title, exhibited by
Hanover 4-H’er Tammi Grubb.
Under the sale gavel, the
266-pound and 258-pound pigs
brought identical $1.30 per pound
prices from winning bidder Delw

weighing in at a closely-matched
213 and 217 pounds. The 12-year

4-H’er Rick Jones, with Hatfield
Packing the buyer at $1.50 per
pound for the 237-pounder.
