Each year one lamb, steer, and pig are earmarked to benefit the Carroll County 4-H livestock fund. This year the Geiman Bros, scholarship lamb was raised and exhibited by Nick Thurston to benefit the scholarship fund. The 100-pound lamb was purchased by the Geiman family of West minster for $3.50 per pound. The Union National Bank scholarship steer was raised and exhibited by Mark Miller. The steer, weighing 1,100 pounds, was purchased by Bullock Family Restaurant of Westminster for 90 cents per pound. The Feeser Family scholarship pig. raised and exhibited by Becky Arnold, sold for $2.20 per pound to Triple Spike Construction Co.. Mark and Bryan Van Sant, of Woodbine. A number of individuals and businesses were recognized at the sale for their contributions to the ag center building fund. CJ. “Buck” Miller Jr. of CJ. Stpms Jr., vice president of the truck center. Dwayne Amoss of Lehigh Port- land Cement in Union Bridge donated $5OO toward the new building fund. Lehigh Portland Cement has been a big supporter in the community, and wants to continue with its commitment to support youth and agriculture in the county, said Amoss. Donors of time, service, and materials to the fair board were recognized and' presented with framed, limited edition posters of the centennial fair. They were Beth Stambaugh of Hodgepodge Petting Zoo, Donald Lippy repre senting Lippy Bros.', Ray Finch representing Finch Services, and C.J. “Buck” Miller Jr. repre senting CJ. Miller, Inc. Jack Reedy, an auctioneer from Hampstead, was honored for his service to the fair. Reedy has attended every fair for the last 31 years, except for one year when he was in the hospital. Sale Has 315 Animals HONESDALE (Wayne Co.) At noon on Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, local 4-H’ers successfully offered 31S animals for sale at the Wayne County Junior Livestock Sale. Area businesses, parents, and friends purchased market hogs, steers, and lambs for a total sale figure of $125,847.20. Helping the youth sell their animals were volunteer auctioneers Wayne Weaver, Adam Fraley, John Re gan, Bob Earl, Tom Randt, and Dan Naylor. For the second year in a row, Waymart Milling Company bid more than $9,000 for the benefit of area 4-H’crs. One of the hogs they purchased was resold to ben efit Steven Zeiler, a former 4-H’er who was critically injured in an automobile accident last winter. Also reselling hogs to benefit Zeiler were Community Bank and Trust, Deerpark Lumber, Keat ings’ Heaven’s Gate Farm, Ship sky and Randt Trucking, and Mike’s Heavy Equipment Other animals were resold to benefit individuals and organiza tions. Tim O’Connell Well Drill ing returned four pigs for the Tri- Gal 4-H Club and the Calkins 4-H Ag Club. Community Bank and Trust resold three more pigs to aid Wayne County 4-H, the John Val entine Baby Medical Fund, and the Center Medical Fund. Deer park Lumber returned one more pig to benefit the Kountry Kids 4-H Club. WJ. Reining and Sons, Inc., returned two pigs for resale for the Wayne County 4-H. The Honesdale National Bank gave two pigs back to sell for the Way ne County Food Pantry and Way ne County Habitat For Humanity, and one lamb back for the Wayne County Fair. Mike’s Heavy Equipment donated the proceeds of the sale of one sheep to the Kountry Kids 4-H. Jeff Nogan Auto Supply resold one sheep to benefit the Pleasant Mount Go- Getters 4-H Club. John and Sue Keyes returned one lamb to resell for the Wayne County 4-H Horse Program. The first animal offered for auc tion was the 263-pound grand champion market hog raised by William Keyes of the Pleasant Mount Go-Getters. This animal was purchased by the Wayne Bank for $7/pound. The teserve grand champion market hog was raised by Bridget O’Neill, also of the Pleasant Mount Go-Getters. Dr. Henry Nebzydoski purchased this animal for $4/pound.
