Sale Averages $2,312
REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
Spirits were high and so were
hands as Guernsey breeders
gathered in LaCrosse, Wisconsin,
hoping to bid last on animals sell
ing in the National Convention
Sale on June 23.
Averaging $2,312 on 40 lots,
this sale proved a success for
American and foreign interests.
Topping the sale at $13,000 was
Land Of Living E Garth-ET pur
chased by Select Sires.
Sired by Sherma Victory Ellas
Enhancer, “Garth” has PA totals
of 1.312 M +SBF +37P +I6OSCY;
PTAT +l.B and PTI +248.
His dam is the world renown
Wincrest Vayette Grace. She is
Excellent-95 with records to
41.420M* 4.7% 1,961F* 3.2%
1.305P* at 4-01 in 365 days. She
is the current World Class Leader
for milk in 365 days. “Grace” is
also a three-time national grand
champion. “Garth” was consigned
by Mr. and Mrs. John Ayars and
Sons and Mr. Ken Winters of Me
chanicsburg, Ohio.
The high-selling female of the
sale was Myown Harpoon Bliss-
ET, a fancy open heifer sired by
Wispride Pender Harpoon.
“Bliss,” consigned by Mark Erd
man, Roy Wilson, Bob Griggs and
Melinda Rushing of Dorchester,
Wisconsin, sold for $6,000 to
Lavon Farms of Plano, Texas.

Penny Perfecto-ET dam has
records to 31.020M* 4.4%
1.352F* 3.5% 1.085P* at 2-07 in
365 days. She has six national
class leading records for milk, but

fecto-ET, “Glorious” sold bred to
Longmedo Pender Velour-ET.
Her maternal brother was the top
seller in this sale.
“Glorious” was consigned by
Mr. and Mrs. John Ayars and Sons
and Mr, Ken Winters of
Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
The high-selling Guernsey
Gold heifer was Angies Acres
Luck Candi, a Trotacre Jay Mr.
Luck-ET daughter with a PA of
+B44M +46F +42P +I69SCY.
Her 84-point dam, a Shenmont
Telestar Montie-ET daughter, has
a yield deviation of +3.903M
+235F +I6SP.
“Candi” was consigned by
Andrew Feldmann and Sons of
Farley, lowa. She was purchased
by Matthew Jansen of Forest
Grove, Oregon, for $2,300.
The Guernsey Gold heifer pro
gram is a small sale of select open
heifers open for bidding for junior
members only between the ages of
six and 19. Fifteen percent of the
gross proceeds from the sale of
these heifers goes into a pot and is
divided into four awards for a pro
duction contest The production
contest ranking is based on the
animal’s 2-year-old mature equi
valent pounds of protein.

Guernsey Youth Shine
At National Convention
REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
Well-rounded experience in dairy
husbandry, breed activities and
leadership are the basis for the
National Outstanding Guernsey
Youth competition.
Young dairy enthusiasts from
around the nation who possess
these traits, and many other, com
peted in this contest at the 1997
National Guernsey Convention in
LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on June 22.
The host state favorite, Seth
Wesener of Cleveland, Wis
consin, took home the title of the
1997 National Outstanding
Guernsey Youth. Seth is the son of
Art and Joanne Wesener and at
tends the Fox Valley Technical
College majoring in agriculture.
Like the family farm name.
Foresight Farm, Seth is always
looking into tjie future and sees
himself taking over the farm after

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
The national Guernsey queen
promotes the American Guernsey
Association, the Guernsey cow
and her rich golden product.
Seven young ladies from
around the United States gave pre
sentations, conducted personal
interviews and represented their
individual states as princesses, in
hopes of capturing the national
Guernsey queen title during the
1997 National Guernsey Conven
tion in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
On the evening of June 22,
these seven young ladies listened
as Amber Branstatter, the 1996
National Guernsey Queen,
recapped her reign, all hoping to
be her predecessor.
Selected by the judges to follow
Miss Branstetter as the 1997
national Guernsey queen was Sara
Dueringer of Melvin, Illiniois.

Guernsey cow is with ho* high
protein and solids milk to increase
profitability.
When selecting sires to use on
his herd of 17 Guernseys, Seth
looks for dairy character, strength
and height in his choices. He feels
that by using these traits he will
strengthen the structure and
longevity of his herd.
Seth is an active member of the
Wisconsin Junior Guernsey
Breeders’ Association, FFA and
4-H, and has achieved numerous
awards in each. Seth received the
$5OO Lawrence A. Colebank
award and $5O for travel expenses
to the convention for his
accomplishments.
Victoria Ansell, first runner-up
Sara is the daughter of Larry and
Donna Dueringer and attends
Parkland College in a two-year
transfer program. After complet
ing the two-year degree, Sara will
transfer to Illinois State University
to complete a degree in agriculture
education.
Sara believes she needs to con
tinue promoting the improvement
of the breed’s Total Performance
Evaluation (TPE) lactation aver
age to 15,000 pounds of milk as
well as the high solids level in the
golden milk.
She has been a member of 4-H
for eight years and also an FFA
member, receiving the Section 17
FFA Dairy Proficiency Award,
the DeKalb Award and State FFA
Degree in 1996. She is also an
active member in the Illinois
Junior Guernsey Breeders’ Asso-

Victoria attends Penn State
University majoring in animal
bioscience. She is a member of the
Penn State Student Government
and the Agriculture Science Club.
She is also active in 4-H, the
Pennsylvania Junior Guernsey
Breeders’ Association and has
served as the 1996 Pennsylvania
Guernsey Princess. She is the
daughter of Larry and Susan An
sell of Scottdale, Pennsylvania,
owners of Ansell Acres. Victoria
received $5O to assist with her
travel to the national convention.

native is currently pursuing a

lyn Richardson, Krista’s philoso
phy on how to emphasize the
Guernsey breed in the dairy indus
try is to stress genetics. She is the
breeder and owner of national
show champions and All-
Americans.
As a member of the Ohio Junior
Guernsey Breeders’ Association,
Krista has been the recipient of the
N.H. Hill Award, an outstanding
youth memorial award.
