Averaging $2,312 on 40 lots, this sale proved a success for American and foreign interests. Topping the sale at $13,000 was Land Of Living E Garth-ET pur chased by Select Sires. Sired by Sherma Victory Ellas Enhancer, “Garth” has PA totals of 1.312 M +SBF +37P +I6OSCY; PTAT +l.B and PTI +248. His dam is the world renown Wincrest Vayette Grace. The Guernsey Gold heifer pro gram is a small sale of select open heifers open for bidding for junior members only between the ages of six and 19. Young dairy enthusiasts from around the nation who possess these traits, and many other, com peted in this contest at the 1997 National Guernsey Convention in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on June 22. The host state favorite, Seth Wesener of Cleveland, Wis consin, took home the title of the 1997 National Outstanding Guernsey Youth. Seth is the son of Art and Joanne Wesener and at tends the Fox Valley Technical College majoring in agriculture. Like the family farm name. Seven young ladies from around the United States gave pre sentations, conducted personal interviews and represented their individual states as princesses, in hopes of capturing the national Guernsey queen title during the 1997 National Guernsey Conven tion in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. On the evening of June 22, these seven young ladies listened as Amber Branstatter, the 1996 National Guernsey Queen, recapped her reign, all hoping to be her predecessor. Colebank award and $5O for travel expenses to the convention for his accomplishments. Victoria Ansell, first runner-up Sara is the daughter of Larry and Donna Dueringer and attends Parkland College in a two-year transfer program. After complet ing the two-year degree, Sara will transfer to Illinois State University to complete a degree in agriculture education. Sara believes she needs to con tinue promoting the improvement of the breed’s Total Performance Evaluation (TPE) lactation aver age to 15,000 pounds of milk as well as the high solids level in the golden milk. She has been a member of 4-H for eight years and also an FFA member, receiving the Section 17 FFA Dairy Proficiency Award, the DeKalb Award and State FFA Degree in 1996.
