Three Chilly Saints
Mammertus, Pancras, and Gervais (or Gervatius) are
the “Three Chilly Saints” who celebrate their feasts
each year on May 11, 12, and 13. The three became
known in weatherlore for predicting what were tradi
tionally the three coldest days of the month Germans
knew these days as Icemdnner, or
the Iceman Days, and farmers
knew better than to plant vulnera
ble seedlings before the Icemen
had come and gone The English
and French saw the Three Chilly
Saints as harbingers of a late
spring frost

Microbes in the rumen or lower gut can utilize these simple
nitrogenous compounds in the same way they utilize ~
complete protein by reducing it to absorbable amino acids. W
When Prota - lon Salt is added to the ration:
- nitrogen conversion to microbial protein is more efficient
- a reduction in ammonia loss
- increased efficiency of carbohydrate usage
- increased microbial growth
- increased microbial “spillover” into the lower gut.
