Brosius has announced that the department is seeking producers interested in operating stands at farmers’ markets along the Penn sylvania Turnpike during the 1997 growing season. “Gov. Ridge has pledged to work with our agriculture com munity to find new markets for Pennsylvania-grown and pro duced products,” Brosius said. “While we have been successful at assisting our farmers with increas ing their exports, we also are com mitted to expanding the domestic market through innovative and strategic methods. “Over the past three years, the Turnpike Farmers’ Markets have proven to be very popular with the traveling public and provide farm ers a new and excellent opportuni ty to market their products.” Brosius noted that there are four Turnpike fanners’ markets. They are located at the Allentown (Le high County), New Stanton (Westmoreland County), Sideling Hill (Fulton County), and Valley Forge (Chester County) service plazas. Although many vendors will be returning for 1997, there will be opportunities for additional ven dors at each of the markets. Pennsylvania producers who grow more than 50 percent of their total sales are eligible to partici pate. The vendors may supple ment their own production with produce that is also Pennsylvania grown.
