Focus On Helping Plain Sect Farmers
(Continued from Page A 23)
Also included in the discussion was the
need to explain both preservation programs to
township planning commissions so that town
ships may become more sympathetic to pre
servation and be able to clear up misconcep
tions individuals may have about farm
preservation.
To date more than 200 farm totally 14,000
acres are on the waiting list. In 1998, the pre
serve board will be required to use a ranking
system when selecting farms to preserve with
state monies. The Preserve Board wants to
make certain that an even handed approach is
used in ranking when funds become available
and will use Trust funds in helping to purch

“Confidence from the public has grown
since the Ag Preserve Board was established
in 1980 and the Farmland Trust in 1988,”
Stouffer said. “We have had tremendous
increasing support from agribusiness.”
This support enabled the Trust to preserve
more farms and exceed the funding of last
year’s goal.
Both organizations will continue working
in the same direction characterized by closely
working together.
In the past, joint board meetings of both
preservation organizations met annually. But,
Stouffer said that they plan to conduct smaller
meetings several times throughout the year to
focus on strategies.

Becky grew up on a 61-cow
dairy farm as well as worked on
various farms during her college
years which gave her a mix of dif
ferent situations which in return
prepared her for a role as a Pa.
DHIA technician.
Since the age of nine, Becky
has been a member of several 4-H
clubs which included dairy as well
as other pertinent clubs.
When asked what she likes
most about being a Pa. DHIA
technician, Becky said, “I like be
ing around cows, seeing different
farms and how they are operated.”
Pa. DHIA invites the dairy in
dustry in welcoming Becky
aboard and feel free to contact Pa.
DHIA at 1-800-344-8378 if we
can assist with your dairy opera
tion.
