The Club honored Jim Hostetler of Lewistown with the Distin guished Service Award. James O. Reed of Reedsville received rec ognition for having the highest herd BAA in the county. Houser, a Centre County Hols tein breeder and owner of Penn- Dell Farm in Spring Mills, out lined what he thought should be priorities in building a good herd of cows. “No one builds a Super Bowl winner overnight, and no one builds a good herd overnight,” Houser began. “The first decision is what do you want an out standing type cow, outstanding milk cow or a combination of Holstein Club Holds Banquet both.” Houser also believes in finding the family of cows best suited for what you want, and building from there. “I’ve had more success breed ing out of a great family mote success over the long run. Being successful means breeding the type of cows you want” In other business, Mark Bylcr, Matt Kline and Ed Glide were vot ed in as directors. Mike Ammon gave the Pennsylvania Holstein Association Report Vernon Yod er reported on the youth and open show at the fair this past year. Sue Sellers, in her Junior Mem bership report, said that 30 junior members showed at the fair this summer and several showed more than one animal. James O. He Is Joined by Centre County dairyman Jay Houser who spoke at the banquet. 4-H Dairy To Meet March 14 VIRGINVILLE (Berks Co.) The Berks County 4-H Dairy Pro gram will honor its members and volunteer leaders at its annual awards banquet to be held on Fri day, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginvillc Grange Hall. Outstanding record books, herd project journals, and round champions will be recognized as well as participants in dairy bowl and dairy judging. Volunteer 4-H leaders will be recognized for their service. The winners of the Joyce Miller 4-H Career Advancement Award and the Charles D. Care Memorial Rookie of the Year Award will be announced. The entertainment for the eve ning will be a presentation by Miss Angela Werley, Berks Coun ty and Pennsylvania State Dairy Princess.
